What's going on?December 18, 2007 When will doors open?
Not for perhaps a year. We have a committee reviewing our business
plan. That committee will be making suggestions about a process to make
significant changes to the plan. Once the owners agree to a process
then the plan will be changed to fit current circumstances. We hope to
hear from that committee by the end of February if not sooner. Updates
will appear on this web site. How will we finance the store?
That really depends on the business plan. It takes a special kind of
financier to support a project like this. We have many ideas on who
might have an interest in financing our co-op, but we must be
absolutely clear on what our store will look like. We do know that we
won't commit to any store leases until full financing is in place. What will the store look like?
We don't expect to open a corner store, but we also don't expect to
open a major supermarket either. What fits between those two sizes will
depend on the research done while revising the business plan. Isn't this all very vague?
Yes, but please remember that we are reorganizing the Medford Market
Cooperative. We aren't quite starting from the beginning. We do have a
business plan but it needs major revisions. We do have a marketing
study but it is based on the old location. We do have a big list of
owners who are committed to this project. We also have a big list of
volunteers, many with high level professional skills. But it will take
some time to look again at the underlying assumptions of our business
plan. Do you promise to keep us informed on progress?
Yes, we certainly do plan on letting you all know where things are
going. This is the end of the year, and we all have many family duties.
We also worked very hard to keep the cooperative from dissolving and we
are still recovering from that effort. I think you will find that by
the end of January a lot of work will have been done...and perhaps you
were one of the people who helped make it happen! Click here to volunteer. Thank you, John Statler, President Medford Market Cooperative ==========================
