Presenters:

1. Ed Winslow was the founder and president of First American Financial Cooperative, the first financial-planning cooperative formed in the United States. He was also the founder, president and chairman of First Affirmative Financial Network, the nations first NASD registered broker/dealer to specialize in socially-responsible investments. He has earned the designations Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Fellow Life Management Business Institute (FLMI) and Associate in Risk Management (ARM). Ed is the author of the book Blind Faith: Our Misplaced Trust in the Stock Market and Smarter, Safer Ways to Invest.  Ed is currently an independent financial consultant and President of Protect Money Investments, a firm which avoids individual stocks and equity mutual funds in favor of principal protected alternatives. A Rogue Valley resident since 2001, Ed is a lifetime member of the Southern Oregon Historic Society and a director of THRIVE (The Rogue Initiative for a Vital Economy)

2. Torrey Byles is an economist and business consultant assisting investment groups, managers and non-profit enterprises in strategy, finance, business development and marketing communications. He has 20 years in the information technology sector, and five years in sustainable industries.  He is Chairman of the non-profit THRIVE, The Rogue Initiative for a Vital Economy which is dedicated to local economic development. Torrey has worked with scores of start-up technology companies in the Silicon Valley and around the world. He has conducted a wide range of studies on the effects of information systems on supply chains, industry structure, and enterprise performance.

3. Crystal Arnold graduated in June from SOU with a degree in International Economics. While there she wrote several research papers on regional economic development in the Rogue Valley. Crystal currently works with THRIVE, a non-profit that promotes the local economy, and is developing strategies to support regional-sufficiency. She is creating workshops on currency and finance to engage the community so they can better understand the monetary system when navigating global changes.
